Sponsor seats — cover Pro for others
Give clients, suppliers or partners Pro access by paying for their seat.
A sponsor seat is a Pro access you pay for, but which belongs to a person outside your own organisation. The sponsored person keeps their own independent account — they log in with their own email and send their own files. The only connection to you is that you cover the price.
When it makes sense
- A client who delivers documents to you often — give them Pro so they don't hit the free limits
- A supplier who sends large deliveries back — Pro gives them larger file limits and priority in the upload queue
- A freelancer or partner where as part of the agreement you include Pro tools
- A family friend or acquaintance you sponsor for personal reasons
How it works
- Go to Account → Sponsor seats
- Enter the email address of the person
- Choose monthly or annual billing
- Confirm
If the person already has an account, the sponsorship is linked to it. If not, the Pro access becomes active the first time they create an account with that email.
What the sponsored person sees
The sponsored person gets a notice in their account that Pro access is covered by you ("Sponsored by Yourcompany Inc"). They have full Pro functionality, but don't see your invoices or other administrative details.
If the person already has Pro
We detect overlap and try to avoid double-billing. Sponsor seats you add where the recipient already has coverage are clearly marked in the list, so you can choose whether to continue or remove the sponsorship.
Cancel a sponsor seat
Go to the list under Account → Sponsor seats, find the person, and press "End". The seat remains active through the period you've paid for, and does not renew automatically the next time. The sponsored person keeps Pro through that period and is notified when the coverage expires.
You don't get a refund for time already paid for — the sponsored person has already had the access.
Volume discount
Sponsor seats count toward the total number of seats under your business account, together with any domain seats. That means each new sponsor seat you add can trigger a better discount for the entire list. See the article on volume discount for the table.
Sponsor seat vs domain seat
Both cover Pro for others, at the same price with the same volume discount. The difference:
- Sponsor seat — for people outside your organisation, with their own account
- Domain seat — for people who log in with your approved domain, become part of your business account
If the person isn't to be part of your business account, sponsor seat is the right choice.
