Frequently asked questions
How large a file can I send?
With a free account you can send files up to 3 GB per transfer. With Pro up to 100GB, no quota.
How long is a link active?
Default expiry is seven days. You can choose a different expiry date before you send — from 1 day up to 30 days with Pro. After expiry the file is deleted and the link stops working.
Does the recipient need an account to download?
No. The recipient just clicks the link and downloads. If you turn on recipient verification — the recipient gets an email with a code they have to confirm. But no account is created.
What is recipient verification?
A Pro feature that requires the person clicking the link to verify their email with a one-time code before they can download. Three levels:
- Off — anyone with the link can download
- Exact email — only the address you sent to
- Domain — all addresses on domains you have whitelisted
It's a nice protection if you don't want recipients to forward the link to others who also want to download the file.
What is burn on delivery?
A Pro feature that permanently deletes the file right after the first download. The link stops working. Good for one-off documents you don't want to be downloadable multiple times or forwarded.
Do I get notified when someone downloads?
Yes, if you have it turned on. Under Account → Profile → Notifications you can toggle four different email notifications:
- When a transfer is confirmed sent
- When the recipient downloads
- Reminder 24 hours before expiry if the file hasn't been downloaded
- When the file expires without having been downloaded
You can also override these per individual transfer under "Advanced options" before you press Send.
What happens if the link has expired?
The file is permanently deleted from our servers. The recipient sees "The transfer has expired" if they try to open the link. We cannot recover expired files — you have to send again from the original file.
What's the difference between a sponsor seat and a domain seat?
Both are ways you as a business customer can cover Pro access for others, at the same price with volume discount.
- Sponsor seat — you add each individual user you're going to pay for. You have 100% control. You're the sponsor for these users for as long as you want.
- Domain seat — for companies with many employees who need
access to the service. First you verify the domain they'll have
access from (
@yourcompany.com). Employees register from this domain and you get an email where you choose yearly/monthly access or decline. Very simple.
Where are my files stored?
All files are stored on servers in the EU. As of today we do not use US-based cloud services for file storage. Files are encrypted at-rest, data transfer is encrypted with TLS. After expiry the file is permanently deleted within 1 hour.
